Frequently Asked Questions

Counselling (or psychotherapy) provides a safe, confidential space for you to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours with a trained therapist. It supports you in gaining insight, building self-esteem, managing emotions (such as anger or anxiety), improving relationships, healing from trauma, and developing healthier coping strategies.

You might consider counselling if you find yourself experiencing:

  • Persistent low mood or depression, or asking “where can I get help for depression?”
  • Recurrent anxiety, worry or panic symptoms
  • Difficulty managing anger or emotions (“therapy for anger management”)
  • Struggles with self-esteem or identity (“self-esteem counselling Winnipeg”)
  • Relationship issues, communication breakdowns, or conflict (“what is couples counselling?”)
  • A need to heal from past trauma, or curiosity about trauma-informed therapy
  • Being stuck in unhealthy patterns and wanting change

A psychotherapist is a clinician (such as a registered social worker, psychologist, or other regulated professional) who is trained in talk-therapy and related modalities (e.g., trauma-informed, EMDR) to help clients with mental health, emotional and relational concerns. At Whole Self Wellness our practitioners hold the relevant credentials and work with you to tailor the approach to your needs.

Couples counselling (or relationship counselling) is about providing tools, structure and insight to partners who are looking to improve communication, resolve conflict, rebuild trust, or deepen their connection. Whether you’re just starting a relationship or have been together for years, this therapeutic work focuses on the dynamics between you and your partner.

EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a clinically-supported trauma-treatment modality that helps your brain process and “rewire” distressing memories and their accompanying emotions and physical sensations. If you’ve experienced trauma, crisis, or ongoing emotional distress, EMDR may be an effective therapeutic option. Our Winnipeg-based practice offers EMDR as part of our trauma-informed therapy offerings.

Trauma-informed therapy means that the therapist recognises the widespread impact of trauma, works with sensitivity and safety, understands how trauma affects the body, mind and relationships, and helps to empower the client in the healing process. It’s an approach rather than a single technique—and useful if you’ve had past adverse experiences, want to understand their effects, and want to integrate healing into your life.

Yes, we offer secure and confidential online counselling for clients across Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba. Virtual sessions are a great option if you prefer the comfort of your own home, have a busy schedule, or live outside the city. All online sessions are conducted through a safe, encrypted platform to ensure your privacy.

Whether you're seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, or general wellbeing, our online therapy services provide the same level of care, connection, and professionalism as in-person sessions.
