What Is Direct Billing?

Direct billing means your provider submits your insurance or third-party claim on your behalf, so you do not need to pay the full session fee upfront and seek reimbursement yourself. Instead, your insurer or third-party payer is billed directly and you pay only any remaining balance not covered by your plan.

At Whole Self Wellness, several of our practitioners offer direct billing to a wide range of insurers and third-party payers. Coverage varies by practitioner and by plan. We strongly recommend confirming direct billing availability with your specific provider before your first appointment.

Private Insurance Direct Billing

Whole Self Wellness practitioners direct bill the following private insurers, where applicable:

  • Blue Cross
  • Canada Life
  • Desjardins
  • ClaimSecure
  • Global Benefits
  • Maximum Benefit
  • Sun Life
  • And more

Medavie Blue Cross is also available for members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Please note: not all providers at Whole Self Wellness direct bill all of the above insurers. Contact your provider directly to confirm what is available for your plan and your specific practitioner.

Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB)

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program is a federal program that provides eligible First Nations and Inuit clients with coverage for a range of health benefits not covered by provincial or territorial health insurance plans, including mental health counselling and psychotherapy services.

At Whole Self Wellness, the following providers offer direct billing under the NIHB program:

Alanna Jones, MSW, RSW
Contact Alanna directly to discuss NIHB coverage and book an appointment.

Indian Residential Schools (IRS), Indian Day Schools (IDS), and MMIWG

Support for survivors of Indian Residential Schools, Indian Day Schools, and family members affected by Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) may include access to mental health and emotional support services through specific federal programs.

At Whole Self Wellness, Alanna Jones, MSW, RSW is the only provider who offers direct billing under these programs. If you or a family member may be eligible for mental health support under IRS, IDS, or MMIWG programs, please contact Alanna directly to discuss your options and next steps.
